India Strengthens Forces on Pakistan-China Borders
India is ramping up its military presence along its western and northern borders, introducing new combat units and technology to address growing security challenges from Pakistan and China. This decision follows key learnings from recent operations and a heightened perception of two-front threats.
Combat Units and Specialized Brigades
The Indian Army has introduced ‘Rudra’ all-arms brigades and ‘Bhairav’ light commando battalions. Rudra brigades are integrated formations that combine infantry, artillery, engineering, and communication units, aiming to respond rapidly with greater coordination. Bhairav battalions are designed for high-speed deployment and flexible operations, ideal for terrain-sensitive conflict zones.
Boost in Drone Surveillance and Missile Coverage
To enhance battlefield awareness, infantry units will be equipped with dedicated drone platoons, and smart artillery systems are being deployed for precise targeting. India is also upgrading its air defence with more missile units, aiming to deter and neutralize aerial threats efficiently.
Intelligence Lessons Prompt Action
A major concern emerged after it was revealed that China provided real-time intelligence to Pakistan during a recent conflict. This highlighted India’s vulnerability to joint surveillance and prompted a reassessment of border intelligence and force coordination. Integrated Battle Groups and Mobilization Powers
India is progressing towards a more agile defence structure by forming Integrated Battle Groups, designed for swift cross-domain responses. Additionally, the government has authorized the Army Chief to mobilize Territorial Army battalions when needed, offering quick reinforcements to frontline areas.
