India Showcases Military Readiness with Pinaka Rocket Firing

In a strong signal of operational preparedness and indigenous capability, the Indian Army has successfully carried out a firing drill of the Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) system at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. The exercise serves as a significant demonstration of India’s advancing artillery capabilities and strategic self-reliance.

Pinaka Rocket System Test

The Pinaka MBRL, designed and developed by India’s premier defence agencies, is capable of launching 72 rockets in a rapid burst of just 44 seconds. With a devastating payload of nearly seven tonnes of explosives, it can strike targets at distances up to 60 kilometers. The extended-range variant, Pinaka Mk-II ER, pushes that limit to 90 kilometers, with future iterations expected to achieve ranges of up to 200 kilometers.

Precision and Technological Edge

What sets Pinaka apart is its integration with GPS and inertial navigation systems, which enable high-accuracy strikes with minimal collateral damage. This precision fits well within India’s evolving doctrine of force projection—favoring targeted, decisive action over indiscriminate shelling.

The test reaffirmed India’s ability to conduct real-time engagements across a wide spectrum of terrain and threat scenarios. Seamless integration with command-and-control systems and compatibility with battlefield surveillance assets enhance the system’s overall tactical value.

Indigenous Manufacturing and Export Success

Pinaka’s production has been a collaborative effort involving major Indian defence manufacturers, including Tata Advanced Systems and Larsen & Toubro. With a domestic production capacity exceeding 5,000 rockets annually, India is now equipped to support sustained battlefield operations without foreign dependence.

The system’s success has also caught global attention. India has already supplied Pinaka units to Armenia and is seeing rising interest from other nations, including France. This marks a milestone in India’s journey toward becoming a global supplier of advanced defence platforms.

Strategic Impact

As regional tensions remain high and border vigilance intensifies, the Pinaka system offers the Indian Army a flexible, high-impact artillery solution. Its deployment at strategic locations signals India’s readiness to deter and, if needed, decisively respond to hostile provocations.

The recent test is not just a routine exercise—it is a message of technological confidence and military maturity. Pinaka stands as a testament to India’s progress in homegrown defence innovation and battlefield adaptability.
