India Sends Relief to Quake-Hit Afghanistan

The Government of India has dispatched relief materials, including several tonnes of medicines, to assist communities in Afghanistan that were impacted by a recent earthquake. The aid was confirmed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who conveyed India’s condolences to Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi over the loss of lives in the tremor.

Aid Details

India’s relief shipment is part of its humanitarian response and includes 21 tonnes of relief materials such as tents, blankets, hygiene kits, water-purification items, essential medicines and medical consumables. The load was air-lifted to Kabul and handed over to Afghan authorities.

Ground Situation

The earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan and left hundreds of people dead and injured. India’s support comes amid appeals from the Afghan government for swift international assistance. Disaster-response officials note the aid will help bolster medical and shelter support in the affected provinces.

Strategic Significance

By providing timely assistance, India reaffirms its neighbouring-policy focus and humanitarian outreach in the region. The aid also highlights the logistical capabilities of India’s coordination between its foreign ministry and air-cargo operations in crisis situations.
