India Sends 21 Tonnes Aid to Quake-Hit Afghanistan

India has sent 21 tonnes of humanitarian relief materials to Kabul after a deadly earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, leaving widespread destruction and heavy casualties.

India’s Relief Shipment

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed the aid delivery, which included blankets, tents, hygiene kits, water tanks, generators, portable purifiers, kitchen utensils, sleeping bags, medicines, and medical consumables. The relief also comprised wheelchairs, sanitizers, water purification tablets, and ORS supplies. He said India will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional assistance as required.

Earthquake Devastation

The magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Kunar Province and nearby regions late Sunday. Local authorities and aid groups reported at least 1,100 deaths and over 3,000 injuries. Thousands of homes collapsed, with rescue operations slowed by damaged roads and difficult terrain. Survivors remain in urgent need of shelter, clean water, and medical care.

Global Aid Efforts

The United Nations and international humanitarian organizations, including the World Food Programme, have mobilized support. Several countries have pledged aid, while India’s early shipment highlights its role as a key regional partner in humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
