India Seeks “Win-Win” Trade Deal with U.S.

India is holding detailed trade discussions with the United States, with officials stressing the goal of finding a “win-win situation” for both countries. The talks come in the backdrop of heightened tensions caused by recent tariff measures imposed by Washington on Indian goods.

Tariff-Free Exports Highlight

Despite the frictions, around 45% of Indian exports to the U.S. continue to enter without tariffs. This includes several key product categories, which New Delhi sees as a base to build upon during negotiations.

Key Issues on Table

The discussions are expected to cover tariffs on sectors such as textiles, gems, jewelry, and marine goods, which have seen reduced U.S. demand after higher duties. India is also pressing for concessions on energy imports to balance trade flows and reduce friction in other areas.

Future Outlook

Officials suggest that resolving tariff disputes and expanding tariff-free access could help stabilize bilateral trade ties. Both sides are expected to pursue a framework that boosts exports while securing domestic economic interests.
