India Seals ₹7,995 Crore Deal With US For Navy Copter Support

India has signed a ₹7,995 crore agreement with the United States for long-term sustainment of the Indian Navy’s MH-60R Seahawk helicopters. The package includes spare parts, maintenance assistance, technical support, and training to ensure the fleet remains fully mission-ready.

What The Deal Covers

The agreement, signed under the US Foreign Military Sales framework, provides follow-on and supply support for the advanced multi-role helicopters. It is designed to keep the fleet operational across critical roles such as anti-submarine warfare, maritime surveillance, and over-the-horizon targeting.

Boost To Local Maintenance Capacity

A key component of the partnership is the creation of repair and maintenance facilities in India. Officials said this will deepen domestic capability in aviation logistics and allow Indian firms and MSMEs to participate more actively in naval support systems, aligning with Aatmanirbhar Bharat goals.

Strategic Importance For Naval Operations

India has inducted 24 MH-60R helicopters, and the sustainment deal ensures high availability for frontline warships and carrier groups. The agreement also reflects growing India–US defence cooperation at a time of shifting maritime security dynamics.
