India Says It Will Not Bow Down in Trade Dispute
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, asserted firmly that “India will not bow down to anybody” amid rising trade tensions. He delivered this message during a recent policy summit, emphasizing the nation’s growing self-reliance and economic strength.
Rising Exports and Economic Resilience
Goyal noted that India is expanding its export activity and remains confident that this year’s trade performance will surpass the previous year’s. He highlighted India’s economic growth rate—around 6.5%—and its resilience in facing global challenges. He added that the country has built strong trade foundations and continues to chart its own path.
Shifting Trade Relationships
Rejecting the narrative of deglobalisation, Goyal explained that countries are restructuring trade routes and partners. He mentioned that India is negotiating free trade agreements with several likes-minded nations and blocs, signaling a strategic shift towards deeper and more diversified global ties.
Strong Economy and Young Workforce
India is proud of its large, skilled, and youthful population—an asset that attracts global trade and investment. Goyal stressed that India’s economy is robust, with healthy foreign exchange reserves, stable currency value, and some of the lowest inflation rates among emerging economies.
