India-Russia Ties Grow Despite U.S. Tariffs

Russia has praised India for continuing its strategic partnership despite escalating pressure from the United States and NATO. According to statements from the Russian Foreign Ministry, any attempts to break the ties—especially over India’s purchase of Russian oil—are “destined to fail.”

Stand on Tariffs and Oil Purchases

The U.S. recently imposed tariffs of up to 50% on many Indian imports, citing India’s ongoing purchases of Russian oil and defence cooperation with Russia. India has defended its actions, calling them a matter of energy security and national interest.

Areas of Cooperation

India and Russia are working together across various domains: energy trade, joint manufacturing, civil and military technology production, and shipping using alternative currencies. Officials say bilateral projects continue even under external pressure.

Strategic Autonomy Highlighted

Moscow has publicly commended New Delhi for maintaining “strategic autonomy,” meaning it continues to follow its own foreign policy path rather than conforming to external demands. This includes expanding use of national currencies in trade and strengthening alternative transport and logistics routes.
