India Rejects Pakistan’s Minority Attack Allegations
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly rejected recent claims made by Pakistan alleging attacks on religious minorities in India. The MEA described the accusations as baseless and politically motivated, and said that Islamabad itself has a poor record on minority rights.
Diplomatic Exchange Over Minority Rights
Pakistani foreign ministry officials had urged the international community to take note of what they described as incidents “targeting religious minorities” in India, including claims related to vandalism during Christmas and attacks on Muslim communities. Pakistan called for action to safeguard fundamental rights of vulnerable groups.
In response, India’s MEA spokesperson said New Delhi “rejects the reported remarks” and labelled them as “finger pointing” that cannot obscure Pakistan’s own history of systemic mistreatment of minorities. The Indian government pointed to longstanding concerns about discrimination and violence against minority groups in Pakistan, saying Islamabad lacks the moral authority to criticise India on this issue.
Broader Context
The exchange reflects ongoing tensions between the two countries over human rights and border issues. India’s response highlights its position that allegations from Pakistan should not divert attention from internal matters and should be viewed in the context of broader bilateral relations.
