India Rebukes Pakistan’s Kashmir Remarks at Geneva UN Session
At the 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, India strongly criticized Pakistan for its remarks concerning Jammu and Kashmir. Kshitij Tyagi, representing India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, described Pakistan as a “failed state” that “survives on international handouts.”
India-Pakistan Relations at UN
Tyagi expressed regret over Pakistan’s leadership perpetuating “falsehoods handed down by its military-terrorist complex.” He accused Pakistan of misusing international platforms, stating, “Pakistan is making a mockery of the OIC by abusing it as its mouthpiece.” He further lamented the council’s time being “wasted by a failed state which thrives on instability and survives on international handouts.”
Kashmir’s Integral Status
Reaffirming India’s position, Tyagi emphasized that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are “integral and inalienable parts of India.” He highlighted the “unprecedented political, social, and economic progress” in these regions over recent years, attributing these advancements to the residents’ confidence in the government’s dedication to restoring normalcy after prolonged periods of “Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.”
Call for Internal Reflection
Tyagi advised Pakistan to move beyond its “unhealthy obsession with India” and focus on resolving its internal challenges. He remarked, “India remains focused on democracy, progress, and ensuring dignity for its people. Values that Pakistan would do well to learn from.”
This exchange underscores the ongoing tensions between the two nations, particularly concerning the Kashmir issue, and highlights India’s commitment to countering narratives it deems misleading on international stages.
