India Rebukes Pakistan At UN Over Claims
India criticised Pakistan at the United Nations over what it called repeated false claims of Islamophobia against New Delhi, while also using the forum to highlight recent Pakistani military action in Afghanistan. The exchange came during a broader discussion on the weaponisation of religious identity and the misuse of international platforms for political messaging.
India Hits Out At Pakistan At UN
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, strongly rejected Pakistan’s allegations against India and accused Islamabad of fabricating narratives for political purposes. He said the UN should take note of the growing tendency to weaponise religious identity and use it for narrow political ends. India’s intervention framed Pakistan’s criticism as part of a larger pattern of using religion as a diplomatic tool.
India Cites Afghanistan Strike In Response
During his remarks, Harish also referred to Pakistan’s recent airstrikes in Afghanistan, pointing to the humanitarian impact of military action during Ramadan. Without dwelling only on bilateral rhetoric, India broadened its response by drawing attention to developments in the wider region and raising concerns over the treatment of minorities and displaced people in Pakistan’s neighbourhood. The comments brought Afghanistan into the debate as India sought to counter Islamabad’s moral positioning at the UN.
India Rejects Islamophobia Allegations
India also used the occasion to defend its domestic record, with Harish stating that Muslims in India, including those in Jammu and Kashmir, elect their own representatives and participate in democratic life. He said the real intolerance on display was against multicultural coexistence rather than against any one community in India. The remarks reflected New Delhi’s continued position that Pakistan’s repeated attempts to raise such issues at international forums are politically motivated and disconnected from realities on the ground.
