India Pushes Rice Exports to the Philippines
India is stepping up efforts to expand rice exports to the Philippines, the world’s largest rice importer. In 2024, the Philippines imported rice worth about USD 2.52 billion, while India’s share stood at just USD 48.91 million, reflecting a vast untapped potential for Indian exporters.
Export Promotion Mission
A delegation of Indian rice exporters will visit the Philippines in early September to explore trade prospects and build long-term partnerships. On the other side, Philippine food importers will participate in upcoming events in India, including World Food India (September 25–28) and the International Rice Conference (October 30–31), to strengthen trade ties and enhance cooperation.
Agricultural Trade Context
India’s agricultural exports to the Philippines in 2024 were valued at around USD 413 million, accounting for roughly 2% of the Philippines’ total agricultural imports. Key export commodities included bovine meat, groundnut, rice, and tobacco. With rice emerging as a priority, both countries are expected to scale up cooperation in this sector.
