India Positioned As Global Bridge-Builder
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is emerging as a “bridge-builder” at a time when the world is witnessing conflict, uncertainty and fragmentation. Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, he described India’s role as one of connecting nations, building trust and contributing to global stability.
Growth And Trust Amid Global Slowdown
Modi highlighted that several large economies are facing slow growth and weakening confidence, while India continues to post strong economic numbers. He pointed to recent quarterly growth data to underline that India is writing “stories of growth” when others are struggling. He said that while trust is diminishing in many regions, India is increasingly being seen as a pillar of credibility.
Pushback Against “Hindu Rate Of Growth” Label
Addressing the phrase “Hindu rate of growth,” Modi said it was a wrong and misleading characterisation. He argued that it was policies and governance decisions of the past that affected growth, and it had nothing to do with culture or heritage. He added that India is now demonstrating confidence and ambition on the global stage.
Governance Reforms To Empower Citizens
The Prime Minister also cited reforms to simplify procedures and reduce barriers. He mentioned the decision allowing self-attested documents for many official purposes as an example of trust-based governance that reduces red tape and benefits citizens. The aim, he said, is to build an environment where trust flows both ways between government and people.
Speech Delivered At HTLS
The remarks were made during the 23rd Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, where Modi addressed the audience on India’s approach to global cooperation, growth and governance.
