India Pledges $680M Package To Mauritius

India has announced a $680 million economic assistance package for Mauritius. The funds will support key infrastructure, security, health, and maritime projects.

Strategic Elements And Chagos Support

The package includes redevelopment of Port Louis port and enhanced surveillance of the Chagos Marine Protected Area. Mauritius has backed India’s strategic role in Chagos, especially after its sovereignty was transferred to Mauritius in May 2025.

Bilateral Meeting Context

The announcement came during a bilateral meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritian PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi. Both leaders emphasized deeper cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.

Other Sectors Covered

Beyond security, the aid also covers projects in port infrastructure, health services, grant support for budget requirements, and likely grants and lines of credit to help Mauritius with sustainable development.
