India Plays Key Role in Bringing Peace to Ukraine, EU Chief Says

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said India has an important role to play in ending the war in Ukraine during a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Global Security Risks Highlighted

Von der Leyen warned that the war in Ukraine has global security implications and poses economic risks far beyond Europe. She urged all nations to contribute toward peace, stressing that the conflict’s effects extend across energy supplies, trade, and global stability.

India’s Role in Peace Efforts

She welcomed India’s continued engagement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and pointed out that India’s growing global influence gives it the ability to push Russia toward peace negotiations. She underlined that India’s balanced approach could help bring both sides closer to dialogue.

Strengthening EU–India Relations

Alongside the discussion on Ukraine, both leaders reviewed progress in the ongoing India–EU trade talks. They expressed optimism about finalizing agreements that would boost cooperation in technology, clean energy, and economic growth.
