India PCB Push To Save ₹40,000 Crore
India is preparing to reduce its dependence on imported printed circuit boards, with Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw saying domestic PCB manufacturing could save nearly ₹40,000 crore in annual imports.
Domestic PCB Manufacturing Push
Vaishnaw said India is moving beyond electronics assembly and entering deeper manufacturing of key components. Printed circuit boards are essential to almost every electronic device, providing the platform on which components are mounted and connected.
The minister said advanced multi-layer PCBs, including boards with 20 to 22 layers, are critical for modern technology. Domestic production of such components is expected to strengthen India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem and reduce foreign exchange outflow.
Jewar Electronics Manufacturing Hub
The comments came as Vaishnaw and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone for two major electronics manufacturing projects in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority region near Jewar.
The Centre expects Jewar to emerge as a major electronics and semiconductor-linked manufacturing hub. The region is being positioned as an important industrial base due to its growing infrastructure, connectivity and proximity to the National Capital Region.
PCB Projects To Create Jobs
The projects include a ₹3,250 crore advanced PCB manufacturing facility by ASCENT-K Circuit, a joint venture linked to Amber Enterprises and South Korea’s Korea Circuit Co. Ltd. The unit will focus on high-density interconnect PCBs, flexible PCBs and semiconductor substrates.
A separate ₹3,500 crore facility by Amber Enterprises will manufacture room air conditioners, copper clad laminates and other critical components. Together, the two plants are expected to generate around 3,000 jobs.
The government sees domestic PCB production as a key step in making India a stronger global electronics manufacturing destination and reducing import dependence in high-value components.
