India Neutralizes Pakistani Air Defense Systems in Lahore Amid Escalating Tensions Confirms MoD
In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, the Indian Armed Forces have conducted targeted strikes on Pakistani air defense systems, including a confirmed hit on a unit in Lahore. This action follows Pakistan’s attempted drone and missile attacks on multiple Indian military installations across Northern and Western regions.
The Ministry of Defence stated, “Indian response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised.”
Pakistan’s Provocation and India’s Countermeasure
Between the night of May 7 and early hours of May 8, Pakistan launched drones and missiles targeting key Indian military bases, including those in Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, and others. India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems successfully intercepted these threats, with debris recovered from multiple locations.
In retaliation, India executed a proportionate response, focusing on Pakistan’s air defense infrastructure. The strike on Lahore’s air defense unit underscores India’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and responding decisively to aggression.
Civilian Casualties and Ongoing Tensions
Pakistan’s increased mortar and artillery firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in regions like Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri has resulted in the tragic deaths of 16 civilians, including women and children. India has reiterated its commitment to a non-escalatory posture but affirmed that any further provocation will be met with appropriate force.
International Concerns and Calls for Restraint
The international community has expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Calls for restraint and dialogue have been issued to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
