India Moves To Secure LPG Supply
India Moves To Secure LPG Supply Amid Iran War
The Centre has moved to secure LPG supplies and protect essential sectors from the fallout of the Iran war, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi chairing a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security meeting to review fuel, power and logistics preparedness. The review came as the government sought to reassure consumers that domestic LPG prices remain unchanged and that supplies are being protected through diversified sourcing.
LPG Supply Diversification Plan
Officials said India is expanding LPG and LNG procurement from multiple countries to reduce dependence on any single route or supplier during the West Asia conflict. The government also reviewed anti-diversion and anti-hoarding measures to prevent black marketing and ensure cylinders reach consumers without disruption.
CCS Reviews Fuel And Power Preparedness
The CCS meeting also examined broader energy security measures, including fuel duty options, coal availability and power generation planning for the summer months. According to the review, coal stocks are currently adequate, while steps have also been taken to ease norms for gas-based power plants and increase coal movement to thermal stations to avoid electricity shortages.
Government Expands Essential Supply Monitoring
Beyond fuel, the government discussed measures affecting fertilisers, agriculture, shipping, aviation, logistics and MSMEs. It said efforts are underway to maintain urea production and coordinate global sourcing of DAP and NPK fertilisers, while states have been asked to crack down on hoarding. The Prime Minister also stressed accurate public communication to prevent misinformation and said departments must remain alert to any emerging supply shock from the conflict.
