India Lose 2nd ODI, Gill Rues Middle-Over Wickets
India suffered a seven-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the second One-Day International (ODI) at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, leveling the three-match series 1-1. New Zealand successfully chased India’s total of 284, with Daryl Mitchell scoring an unbeaten 131 and Will Young contributing 87 in a key partnership.
Gill On Key Phase Of Game
India captain Shubman Gill said his team’s inability to take wickets in the middle overs was crucial in the loss. He said that after an encouraging start with the ball, India struggled to break partnerships in the mid-phase, allowing New Zealand batters to settle and build momentum.
Batting And Bowling Notes
India’s total was anchored by KL Rahul’s unbeaten century, but India’s bowlers could not maintain pressure after the first 10–15 overs. Gill also noted that missed fielding opportunities made defending the target harder. New Zealand’s chase was paced well and completed with overs to spare.
Series Outlook
The final ODI will decide the series in Indore, where both teams will aim to finish strong before their upcoming T20I matches.
