India Launches Probe Into Illegal Bangladeshi Immigration

The Indian government has launched a nationwide investigation into the presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and the fraudulent documentation that enables them to stay in the country. This move is part of a broader effort to enhance national security and prevent identity fraud.

Nationwide Crackdown on Illegal Immigration

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all states and union territories to conduct detailed inquiries into illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and the networks that help them obtain fraudulent documents such as Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and Indian passports. These documents allow illegal residents to secure jobs, open bank accounts, and even travel abroad using false identities.

Officials have identified that many of these forged documents are used for international travel, particularly to Europe and the Middle East, raising serious security concerns.

Recent Arrests Expose Widespread Document Fraud

Authorities have recently arrested multiple illegal Bangladeshi immigrants involved in document fraud:

  • In Delhi, a gang operating a fake currency and identity document scam was dismantled, leading to multiple arrests. Police recovered fake Aadhaar cards, counterfeit currency, and forged passports.
  • In Mumbai, three Bangladeshi nationals attempting to travel to Iraq using fake Indian passports were caught. Investigators suspect a broader network facilitating illegal migration.
  • In Kolkata, officials intercepted an individual altering his appearance to deceive visa authorities, highlighting the sophisticated methods used to evade detection.

Government’s Plan to Strengthen Border Security

The Indo-Bangladesh border remains a hotspot for illegal crossings, with thousands apprehended each year. The government has been deploying advanced surveillance systems, increasing manpower, and tightening border controls to curb illegal immigration.

The umbrella probe ordered by the government aims to track down and dismantle networks involved in document fraud and unauthorized immigration. The move underscores India’s commitment to maintaining national security and enforcing immigration laws.

As authorities intensify their crackdown, the probe is expected to expose deep-rooted illegal immigration networks and lead to stricter enforcement measures to prevent future violations.
