India Joins G7 Critical Minerals Talks in Washington
India participated in G7 talks on critical minerals in Washington, D.C., as part of efforts to strengthen global supply chains and reduce dependence on China. The meeting brought together representatives from the Group of Seven (G7) nations and partner countries to discuss ways to secure resilient and diversified sources of key minerals used in clean energy, technology and defence industries.
Focus on Supply Chain Resilience
Officials said discussions focused on collaboration in mining, processing and sustainable sourcing of critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and rare earths. India’s involvement signals its growing role in global supply chain strategies, especially as major economies seek to counter potential supply risks linked to concentrated production in one country.
Strategic Cooperation
Participants explored ways to increase investment, share technology and align standards to accelerate domestic production and reduce bottlenecks. The talks also covered environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks and frameworks for responsible extraction and trade.
Indian representatives highlighted India’s own plans to expand critical minerals development and integration into international value chains while balancing economic and sustainability goals.
