
India In Active Dialogue With US On Trade Pact
Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on September 11, 2025, that India is in “active dialogue” with the United States about forming a free trade agreement (FTA). The talks are aimed at strengthening trade relations and reducing barriers.
Other Trade Ties Under Way
Goyal added that India is also negotiating FTAs with several other countries. These include New Zealand and Oman. He said deals with Mauritius, UK, UAE, Australia, and the EFTA bloc (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) are already signed or in advanced stages.
Goals And Projections
The minister said that the Oman pact could be finalized within weeks. For Australia, India is working on a second tranche of the trade agreement. With the EU, he noted that many chapters are already in negotiation in New Delhi, indicating progress on the India-EU free trade agreement.
Investment And Innovation Push
Goyal also spoke about attracting investments, especially in research and development. India has earmarked funds for R&D and emphasized that stronger trade pacts can help boost technology, innovation, and create jobs.
