India Has Over 80 Days of Fuel Reserves: Hardeep Puri
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said India currently has fuel reserves sufficient for more than 80 days, underlining the country’s preparedness amid continuing volatility in global energy markets and tensions in West Asia.

Puri said India’s available stocks, refinery capacity and diversified sourcing arrangements provide a substantial buffer against possible disruptions in global crude oil and petroleum supplies.
India has steadily expanded its energy procurement network in recent years, reducing dependence on a limited number of suppliers and securing crude and petroleum products from multiple regions.
The government has also maintained that domestic supplies of petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel and other major petroleum products remain stable.
Refining Capacity Strengthens India’s Energy Security
India is the world’s fourth-largest refiner and operates 22 refineries with an installed refining capacity of more than 258 million tonnes annually.
Domestic petroleum consumption remains below total refining capacity, allowing India to meet internal demand while also exporting significant volumes of refined products.
The government has said this surplus refining capacity gives India additional flexibility during periods of geopolitical instability or temporary disruption in international supply routes.
West Asia Conflict Keeps Oil Markets Volatile
Energy security has gained renewed importance amid instability in West Asia and concerns surrounding major shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.
India has worked to secure supplies that do not depend exclusively on the Hormuz route while maintaining regular engagement with major oil-producing countries.
Puri said the government continues to closely monitor global energy developments and domestic inventories to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability for consumers and industry.
