India, France Army Chiefs Reaffirm Defence Ties

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi met his French counterpart General Pierre Schill on the sidelines of the United Nations Chiefs of the Counter-Terrorism Conference 2025. The meeting reaffirmed the strong strategic partnership between India and France.

Areas of Cooperation

During discussions, both sides agreed to expand joint training exercises, strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation, and deepen defence technology collaboration. They also emphasised improving interoperability in UN peacekeeping operations.

Background and Significance

This meeting builds on General Dwivedi’s earlier 2025 visit to France, where he was briefed on the French Army’s modernization efforts and joint Indo-French exercises like SHAKTI. The renewed engagement underlines India’s focus on enhancing military ties with France and collaborating on global security challenges.
