India Flags Off Maruti’s e-Vitara EV for Global Export

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Maruti Suzuki’s first battery-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, at the Hansalpur facility, marking a significant step in India’s green mobility push. The vehicle is made in India—designed for global markets—and will be exported to over 100 countries, including Europe and Japan.

Strengthening the EV Ecosystem

Modi also inaugurated a hybrid battery electrode manufacturing plant—a joint venture between Suzuki, Toshiba, and Denso—at the same site. The facility will localize over 80% of the battery value chain, reinforcing India’s ambition to become an EV manufacturing hub for the world.

Strategic Investment and Capacity Building

Suzuki Motor Corporation announced a significant investment of ₹70,000 crore (~USD 8 billion) in India over the next five to six years. The Hansalpur plant is slated to become a global production base with a capacity of 1 million vehicles annually, contributing to India’s industrial and export growth.
