India Eyes Israeli LORA and Ice Breaker Missiles
India is reportedly engaged in talks with Israel to locally produce the LORA long-range artillery rocket and the Ice Breaker cruise missile. This development follows the success of Israel’s Rampage missile in recent operations, which is believed to have driven fresh interest from New Delhi in advanced missile systems.
Why These Systems Matter
The LORA (Long Range Artillery) system offers precision-strike capability over hundreds of kilometres, while the Ice Breaker is described as a long-range cruise missile designed for high-value, deep-strike targets. Indian officials see local production of these systems as a way to accelerate defence indigenisation and strengthen supply-chain resilience under their “Make in India” strategy.
Key Challenges Ahead
Both technological transfer and manufacturing localisation pose challenges. India will need to negotiate licensing, supply-chain offset obligations and integration with its existing arsenal. Israel, meanwhile, must balance such exports with its own regional security concerns and export regulations. While no contract has been signed yet, these talks signal a deeper Israel-India defence collaboration trajectory.
