India Exports First Batch of Rose-Scented Litchis to Qatar and UAE
India has officially launched the export of its premium rose-scented litchis from Pathankot, Punjab, with one metric tonne dispatched to Qatar and another half metric tonne headed for the United Arab Emirates. According to the Commerce Ministry, these twin consignments represent a significant milestone in the country’s agri-export strategy and underscore the vast potential of Indian horticultural produce in international markets.
The rose-scented litchi variety, known for its rich aroma and sweetness, has gained popularity among consumers due to its superior quality and unique flavour profile. The fruit was meticulously selected, packed, and certified under strict export standards to meet the requirements of Gulf markets. Officials say this first batch will help gauge commercial interest and open up more opportunities for future exports from the region.
Litchi Export
The Commerce Ministry views this as part of its broader initiative to boost Indian exports of niche, high-value agricultural produce. With global demand rising for exotic and aromatic fruits, India aims to diversify its export basket and improve the presence of regional fruits like litchi in premium segments abroad.
India Qatar UAE Trade
The export of litchis to Qatar and UAE is also seen as a step toward deepening agri-trade ties with Gulf countries. Indian exporters hope the success of this consignment will set the stage for expanded shipments, not just of litchis but other indigenous fruits and horticulture products from Punjab and Bihar, both known for their litchi cultivation.
