India and the European Union are currently working on a series of “transformative initiatives” alongside ongoing efforts to finalize a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by December. These initiatives span defence cooperation, strategic alignment, and innovation collaboration.
13th Round of FTA Negotiations Underway
The 13th round of India–EU trade negotiations has begun in New Delhi this week, with both sides aiming to conclude the long-standing FTA by the end of the year. Key sticking points include market access for automobiles and alcoholic beverages, along with rules of origin and customs policies.
Broader Economic Collaboration on the Horizon
Beyond trade, the partnership is expected to cover areas like technology, green growth, security cooperation, skills development, and mobility. Leaders from both sides have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen ties across multiple sectors, reflecting the EU’s status as one of India’s major trade partners.
