India Denies Use of Its Soil Against Bangladesh

India on Sunday firmly rejected allegations made by Bangladesh that Indian territory was being used for activities hostile to Dhaka. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the claims were baseless and categorically denied that India had ever allowed its soil to be used against Bangladesh or its people.

Responding to the summons issued by Bangladesh to the Indian High Commissioner, the MEA said India remains committed to maintaining a stable, cooperative and constructive relationship with its eastern neighbour. Officials stressed that India has consistently respected Bangladesh’s sovereignty and internal affairs.

Dhaka Summons Indian High Commissioner

The diplomatic exchange followed Bangladesh’s decision to summon the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka to convey concerns over recent political statements made from India by former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh authorities alleged that such statements could influence the political environment ahead of the country’s forthcoming elections.

India rejected the allegations and clarified that individuals residing in India express views in their personal capacity and that New Delhi does not endorse or facilitate political activities targeting another country.

India Calls for Focus on Law and Order

The MEA urged Bangladesh’s interim authorities to focus on maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful environment for democratic processes. India reiterated its support for free, fair and inclusive elections in Bangladesh and said responsibility for internal stability lies solely with Dhaka.

India also underlined that attempts to link internal political challenges in Bangladesh to India were misplaced and unhelpful to bilateral relations.
