India Demands Credible Pakistan Action on Terror
India has said Pakistan must take credible and verifiable action against cross-border terrorism before its assurances can gain international confidence. The Ministry of External Affairs made the remarks after Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, reiterated Islamabad’s determination to combat terrorism.
MEA Demands Action on Cross-Border Terrorism
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Pakistan needed to demonstrate both action and firm commitment rather than rely on statements.
His remarks came after Munir said Pakistan’s armed forces remained determined to defeat terrorism amid rising militant violence within the country.
India has maintained that any meaningful improvement in bilateral relations requires Islamabad to credibly and permanently end support for cross-border terrorism.
India Rejects Pakistan Claims on Indus Waters Treaty
The MEA also rejected Pakistan’s claims concerning recent proceedings linked to the Indus Waters Treaty.
Jaiswal said India does not recognise the Court of Arbitration constituted in connection with the treaty, maintaining that the mechanism was established in violation of the agreement’s provisions.
New Delhi has therefore rejected its decisions and maintains that they have no bearing on India’s sovereign actions concerning water projects.
Indus Waters Treaty Remains in Abeyance
India placed the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance following the April 2025 Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which 26 people were killed.
New Delhi has since said cooperation under the treaty will remain suspended until Pakistan completely stops cross-border terrorism.
The latest comments underline India’s continuing position that announcements or diplomatic assurances from Islamabad must be followed by demonstrable action against terrorist organisations and infrastructure operating from Pakistani territory.
