India Clears Deal To Buy 114 Rafale Jets
The government of India has cleared a major defence acquisition plan to procure 114 Rafale fighter aircraft, marking one of the largest air force modernisation proposals in recent years.
India Rafale Fighter Jet Deal Approval
Authorities approved the proposal valued at about ₹3.25 lakh crore under the multi-role fighter aircraft programme aimed at strengthening combat capability. The aircraft are intended to augment the Indian Air Force fleet and address squadron shortages.
The procurement process is expected to follow a competitive framework with technology transfer and domestic manufacturing participation.
Make In India Defence Manufacturing Plan
Officials indicated a significant portion of the aircraft will be produced in India through collaboration with domestic aerospace firms. The plan aims to expand indigenous manufacturing capacity, supply chains and maintenance infrastructure.
The programme is also expected to support local industry participation in components, servicing and long-term logistics.
Indian Air Force Modernisation Programme
The acquisition is part of broader efforts to modernise the air force with advanced multi-role aircraft capable of operating across diverse missions. Authorities said the addition will enhance operational readiness and replace ageing platforms.
Further procedural steps including negotiations and production arrangements will follow before final contract signing.
