India-China Leaders Reaffirm Partnership at SCO Summit

During their meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that India and China are “partners, not rivals.” Xi assured that China poses no threat to India, while Modi emphasized that bilateral ties should not be defined by third-party perspectives.

Border Stability and Shared Goals

Both leaders highlighted the relatively calm situation along the border since last year’s disengagement measures. They underlined that maintaining peace and stability is vital for sustained bilateral growth. Modi and Xi agreed that any boundary issues must be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and political understanding.

Cooperation Beyond Bilateral Issues

The discussions also extended beyond border matters. Modi and Xi called for stronger cooperation in global governance, stressing the need for reforms in institutions such as the WTO and the UN. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to pursue strategic autonomy and collaborate on regional and global economic stability.
