India Builds Semiconductor Ecosystem: Ashwini Vaishnaw
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India is building a full semiconductor ecosystem and highlighted growing collaboration with global technology firms to develop a skilled workforce. The remarks came as the government focuses on manufacturing capability and talent development to support chip production.
India Semiconductor Ecosystem Development
Vaishnaw said India is moving beyond assembly toward a comprehensive semiconductor value chain that includes design, fabrication and packaging. Multiple fabrication and packaging projects are being set up under government incentive programmes to reduce import dependence.
Officials indicated the objective is to create domestic capacity and integrate India into global supply chains in electronics manufacturing.
Qualcomm Talent Pipeline Collaboration
The minister referred to cooperation with international companies including Qualcomm to strengthen technical training. The initiative aims to build a pipeline of engineers trained in chip design and advanced electronics systems.
Industry partnerships are expected to support curriculum development, research programmes and internships to prepare students for semiconductor manufacturing roles.
Focus On Skills And Manufacturing Growth
The government said skill development is central to attracting investment in high-technology industries. Universities and training centres are being linked with industry to meet workforce demand as factories become operational.
Authorities noted that a trained workforce, combined with policy incentives, is intended to position India as a long-term hub for electronics and semiconductor production.
