India and UK Deepen Strategic Ties with High-Level Talks
India and the United Kingdom held a round of high-level consultations in New Delhi aimed at enhancing their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The discussions were led by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Sir Oliver Robbins, Permanent Under-Secretary of the UK’s Foreign Office.
The meeting covered a wide array of bilateral issues, reaffirming both nations’ commitment to expanding ties across economic, technological, and strategic domains. Officials reviewed progress made since the last dialogue and emphasized continuity in long-term cooperation.
A key highlight of the meeting was the launch of the Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue, a new framework aimed at facilitating mutual growth in high-tech sectors, including defence manufacturing and dual-use technologies.
Launch of Strategic Tech Dialogue and FTA Progress
The launch of the Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue marks a major step in institutionalizing collaboration in sensitive and high-value areas. Both sides agreed that such a dialogue would pave the way for more predictable and secure cooperation in emerging technologies.
The talks also noted the successful conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement and a Double Contribution Convention, which are expected to substantially increase bilateral trade and investment flows. These milestones reflect the growing trust and convergence between the two economies.
Sir Oliver Robbins remarked that the evolving global landscape necessitates deeper collaboration between India and the UK, both of which are committed to building a resilient and rules-based international order.
Expanding Bilateral Cooperation Across Sectors
The consultation saw discussions on a broad range of issues including defence, counter-terrorism, climate change, innovation, green energy, health, education, and diaspora ties. There was a shared commitment to reinforce multilateral cooperation and global stability.
Both governments reiterated their resolve to implement the vision articulated by their prime ministers, focusing on shaping an ambitious partnership for the next decade. The dialogue reaffirmed that economic growth, technology leadership, and democratic values form the foundation of this evolving alliance.
Sir Oliver Robbins is also set to hold separate meetings with Indian officials handling home affairs and international coordination, signaling further engagement on internal security and geopolitical cooperation.
As the India-UK partnership matures, both nations continue to position themselves as strategic allies in a complex global environment, with expanded cooperation on trade, security, and innovation expected to define their trajectory in the years to come.
