India and UAE Leaders Fast-Track Strategic Ties in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held high-level talks in New Delhi on 19 January 2026, focusing on deepening cooperation in defence, energy, trade and technology during the UAE leader’s official visit.

Key Agreements and Targets

The two sides agreed to work towards a Strategic Defence Partnership framework that will deepen collaboration in defence industrial development, training, interoperability, cybersecurity and counter-terrorism. They also agreed a 10-year LNG supply arrangement and set an ambitious goal to double bilateral trade to $200 billion by 2032. Discussions covered civil nuclear energy cooperation, space industry collaboration, cross-border payment linkages and emerging technologies.

Strengthening Economic Links

India and the UAE reviewed strong economic ties and noted rapid growth in bilateral trade since their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. They also signed letters of intent on joint investment projects, including infrastructure development, and on cooperation in food safety and space sector initiatives.

Broader Partnership

Modi and the UAE President reaffirmed the importance of their comprehensive strategic partnership amid regional tensions, emphasising peace, security and mutual interests. The visit highlighted the continued expansion of diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries.
