India And Japan To Partner On Chandrayaan-5 Lunar Mission
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Tokyo that India’s ISRO will collaborate with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on the upcoming Chandrayaan-5 mission. The agreement includes an Indian-built lander and a Japanese-developed rover, and the mission is expected to launch aboard a Japanese H-3 series rocket.
Part Of Larger LUPEX Framework
Chandrayaan-5, also known as the LUPEX (Lunar Polar Exploration) mission, aims to explore the Moon’s south polar region using lander and rover technology. The mission—including joint development of hardware and launch arrangements—builds on a Technical Interface Meeting held between ISRO and JAXA earlier this year.
Symbol Of Deepening Scientific Cooperation
The collaboration underscores a deepening scientific and strategic partnership between India and Japan, showcasing their shared commitment to technology, exploration, and peaceful space initiatives. Modi emphasized how this cooperation will benefit humanity’s progress in space and aligned with broader bilateral ties.
