India Alerts Canada About Khalistani Terrorist Linked to 2020 Murder
India on Saturday informed Canada about Khalistani terrorist Sandeep Singh Sidhu, also known as Sunny, who currently works as a border police official in Canada. Sidhu is wanted for the 2020 murder of Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a prominent figure known for his efforts against militancy in Punjab during the 1990s. Sandhu was shot dead outside his home in Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran district, in October 2020.
Sandeep Singh Sidhu’s Links to Pakistan and ISI
Sidhu, backed by Pakistan’s spy agency ISI, is accused of orchestrating Sandhu’s murder in retaliation for his efforts to stop narcotics and weapons smuggling across the India-Pakistan border. Sidhu is believed to have connections with Pakistan-based Khalistan Liberation Front (KLF) terrorist Lakhbir Singh Rode and other ISI operatives, according to Indian intelligence agencies.
NIA Identifies Canadian Khalistani Terrorists as Masterminds
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently informed the Supreme Court that Khalistani terrorists based in Canada were behind the assassination of Sandhu. Key figures involved in the plot include Sukhmeet Pal Singh, alias Sukh Bhikariwal, and Sunny Toronto, both operatives of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF). Lakhveer Singh Rode, a senior Khalistani leader and the nephew of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, is also believed to have played a significant role in instructing and planning the crime.
Balwinder Singh Sandhu was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his courage and efforts to combat militancy in Punjab. The ongoing investigation highlights the involvement of overseas Khalistani elements in promoting terrorism and violence in India, raising tensions between India and Canada over the presence of Khalistani operatives on Canadian soil.
