India Aims to Host the 2036 Olympic Games
Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated on 24 November 2025 in Jaipur that India is working towards hosting the Olympic Games in 2036. He said the government is developing a strong sports ecosystem and reiterated the nation’s ambition to stage the world’s largest sporting event.
Steps Underway to Boost Sporting Infrastructure
The minister highlighted recent initiatives like the Khelo India School Games, Youth Games and University Games as part of a strategy to identify grassroots talent and upgrade training facilities across India. He noted that sports schools and centres of excellence are being strengthened to build the path for hosting such major events in the future.
Challenges and the Path Ahead
While India has declared its intention to host the 2036 Olympics, the official bidding process has yet to conclude and a host city has not been determined. Stakeholders will need to meet the criteria set by the International Olympic Committee on infrastructure, finance, and sustainability. The minister’s comments reflect early ambition rather than a confirmed hosting contract.
