India Advises Against Non‑Essential Travel To Iran
India has issued an advisory asking its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran due to rising tensions in the Middle East. The advisory was released by the Indian Embassy in Tehran on July 16 following recent military escalations involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Citizens have been urged to remain cautious and reconsider travel plans until conditions stabilise.
Exit Routes Available, No Evacuation Yet
The Embassy clarified that while there is no evacuation order, commercial flight and ferry routes are available for those currently in Iran who wish to leave. Officials advised travellers already in the country to follow Embassy updates and remain alert to developments in the region.
Recent Conflict Fuels Concerns
The advisory comes in the aftermath of multiple airstrikes, including Israeli attacks on Iranian facilities and Iran’s missile and drone retaliation targeting US-aligned military bases. Although a ceasefire was declared on June 24, Indian authorities remain concerned about the fragile security situation and the risk of renewed hostilities.
Thousands Evacuated Since June
Since the conflict erupted, India has successfully evacuated over 3,600 citizens from Iran and more than 800 from Israel. Most of those evacuated were students, professionals, and pilgrims. The Embassy continues to operate helplines and provide assistance to those who remain in the region.
Government Urges Caution
The government has advised all Indian citizens to postpone non-essential travel to Iran, avoid high-risk areas, and stay informed through official channels. Travellers have been asked to maintain contact with the Embassy and act quickly if conditions deteriorate further.
