Imran Khan Seeks Evidence Over OCI Cancellation

Bollywood actor Imran Khan has sought documents and supporting evidence from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) concerning a notice proposing cancellation of his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status. The 43-year-old US citizen has challenged the grounds cited by immigration authorities following his alleged participation in an October 10 protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai.

In his response dated October 22, Khan described the allegations in the show-cause notice as vague and contradictory.

He questioned the completeness of a Mumbai Police report cited by the FRRO and requested access to the relevant records before submitting a detailed explanation.

The actor also argued that authorities appeared to have formed a preliminary opinion about cancelling his OCI registration without providing him sufficient supporting material.

The controversy originated from a demonstration at August Kranti Maidan on October 10, organised in opposition to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Police registered a case concerning Khan’s alleged participation in the protest.

On October 14, the FRRO issued a notice directing him to leave India by October 28. A separate show-cause notice concerning possible cancellation of his OCI status followed on October 17.

Khan has challenged the departure notice before the Bombay High Court.

The Bombay High Court has temporarily stayed the direction requiring Khan to leave India.

The matter is scheduled for further hearing on November 2.

Khan maintains that access to the evidence relied upon by immigration authorities is necessary to prepare his defence and ensure procedural fairness.

His OCI registration has not been cancelled, and the proceedings remain pending.
