ICC Reports $474 Million Surplus Driven by T20 World Cup
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled a robust financial performance for the year ending December 31, 2024, recording a net surplus of $474 million. This strong result reflects a well-managed balance between expanding revenues and disciplined cost control.
T20 World Cup: The Revenue Powerhouse
The standout source of income was the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, jointly held in the West Indies and the United States. The tournament generated approximately $691 million, reaffirming T20’s status as a leading commercial driver for international cricket.
Overall Event Earnings
Total revenue from ICC events in 2024 reached $728 million, slightly below the previous year’s $839 million, but still noteworthy. In addition to the T20 World Cup, other tournaments such as the Women’s T20 World Cup and the U19 Men’s World Cup also contributed, adding upwards of $35 million to the overall haul.
Financial Health & Reserves
With operating costs at around $304 million, the ICC ended the year with a cumulative members’ fund of over $564 million, comprising a $445 million surplus carryover and $119 million in reserves. This conservative financial buffer puts the body in a strong position to weather future uncertainties.
Key Revenue Drivers
- T20 World Cup: The commercial engine driving ICC’s financial success.
- Media Rights and Sponsorship: Especially lucrative in cricket-rich markets like India.
- Stable Events Portfolio: Supplementary income from women’s and youth tournaments.
