IAF Wing Commander Held in Honey-Trap Case
An Indian Air Force Wing Commander has been arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive defence information after being targeted in a suspected honey-trap operation linked to Pakistani intelligence. The officer, arrested on May 31, is currently in judicial custody and faces charges under the Official Secrets Act.
IAF Wing Commander Arrested in Espionage Case
The arrest followed specific intelligence inputs gathered by the Indian Air Force’s intelligence wing, which had placed the officer under active surveillance.
The IAF said proactive monitoring led to the officer being identified and subsequently handed over to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. The force has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards breaches involving classified military information.
The officer was initially taken into police custody before being sent to judicial custody at Tihar Jail.
Pakistan Honey-Trap Angle Under Investigation
Investigators suspect the Wing Commander was approached by a woman through social media and gradually developed regular communication with her, including video calls.
The woman allegedly gained his confidence before seeking photographs, videos and information concerning military movements and deployments.
Authorities are investigating claims that classified documents and other sensitive defence-related data were subsequently transmitted through digital communication channels. The woman is suspected of operating on behalf of handlers linked to Pakistani intelligence.
Officer Accused of Targeting Colleague’s Phone
Investigators are also examining allegations that the Wing Commander installed data-stealing software on a colleague’s mobile phone in an attempt to access information stored on the device.
Delhi Police are examining the officer’s digital communications and the extent of any information allegedly compromised.
Authorities are also investigating whether the case forms part of a wider espionage network targeting India’s defence establishment. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations have not yet been established in court.
