IAF to Launch Major Exercise in Rajasthan

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct a major combat exercise in Rajasthan from July 23 to 25, focusing on air operations across the western border. The exercise will involve high-tempo sorties, day and night missions, and the participation of frontline fighter jets.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to restrict civilian air traffic in the exercise zone, ensuring a safe airspace for military operations.

Rafales, Mirages, Sukhois to Dominate Skies

The drill will feature advanced aircraft including Rafale, Mirage‑2000, and Su‑30MKI, supported by air defence systems and surveillance platforms. The objective is to test mission coordination, air combat tactics, and rapid-response readiness across multiple air bases in Rajasthan.

Both offensive and defensive operations will be simulated, with special emphasis on night-time scenarios to enhance all-weather capabilities.

Strategic Focus Amid Rising Tensions

The exercise is being held under the command of the IAF’s South Western Air Command, which oversees operations along the India-Pakistan border. It comes in the backdrop of heightened alertness following incidents earlier this year that involved drone threats and missile detection over Rajasthan’s border areas.

While this is a scheduled training exercise, its timing reflects India’s commitment to preparedness and vigilance in the western theatre.

NOTAM Keeps Civilian Airspace Clear

To facilitate the drill, the NOTAM will remain active throughout the exercise period, ensuring that no civilian aircraft operate in the designated zones. Coordination between the Air Force and civil aviation authorities will help maintain safety and prevent airspace overlap.

Combat Readiness Remains Top Priority

The Indian Air Force routinely conducts such exercises to maintain a high level of operational readiness. This drill is expected to include:

  • Simulated enemy strikes and aerial interceptions
  • Ground coordination with radar and missile units
  • Mid-air refueling practice
  • Rapid deployment of assets across multiple bases

The exercise will also test crew endurance, command response, and real-time communication systems.
