IAF Eyes More Rafales After Operation Sindoor

The Indian Air Force is considering strengthening its fleet after the successful execution of “Operation Sindoor.” It is evaluating the option of acquiring more Rafale fighter jets to counter the shortfall in squadron numbers.

MRFA Programme Under Review

The additional jets are expected to come under the Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) programme. A government-to-government deal with France remains one of the key options, though no final decision has yet been announced.

‘Made in India’ Status Unclear

While there is speculation that future procurements may include “Make in India” elements or local production partnerships, there is no confirmation that the Rafales will be manufactured entirely in India.

Approval and Next Steps

The IAF is preparing to submit the “Acceptance of Necessity” (AoN) for further approval. Critical details such as costs, production arrangements, and delivery timelines remain under deliberation.
