‘I Should Get Nobel Prize For Delhi Work,’ Says Kejriwal

AAP national convener and ex-Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal sparked debate during a book-launch event in Mohali when he declared he should be awarded a Nobel Prize for governance. Speaking at the Punjabi edition release of Kejriwal Model, he exclaimed, “I should get a Nobel Prize for governance and administration — because I did so much in spite of the L‑G, in spite of so many problems.”

Kejriwal emphasised that his government managed to launch flagship initiatives like Mohalla Clinics, free electricity and water schemes, and quality education and healthcare—despite ongoing obstacles placed by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor and the Centre. He shrugged off claims of political ambition, explaining his aim was never merely electoral victory but to build a “model” of good governance:

“I had no desperation to win every election. My work was to create a model… And we showed that.”

Kejriwal Model Under Pressure

He contrasted his achievements with the BJP’s tenure in Delhi following AAP’s decade-long governance. “Mohalla Clinics are being shut down, free medicines and tests discontinued, roads broken,” he charged, asserting that the BJP was more focused on profit than public service.

Opposition Fires Back

The BJP responded sharply, mocking him for seeking a Nobel and suggesting he needs a “mental health check‑up”. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva caricatured that if Nobel-level recognition applies anywhere, it would be in categories like “corruption, anarchy, and inefficiency.” He added, “He looted Delhi, and the people of Delhi have rejected him.”

AAP’s Vision and Legacy

Kejriwal reminded audiences of his early life, contrasting his political journey with his grassroots activism. He credited his struggle to uplift slum communities and improve public services, stating those experiences shaped the Kejriwal Model, which he believes can be replicated elsewhere.
