Hussain Slams Stokes’ ‘Silly’ Call in Test Draw
The fourth Test between India and England ended in a draw, but the final moments created plenty of controversy. England captain Ben Stokes offered a handshake with India at 425 for 4, hoping to end the game early. India, however, declined. In response, Stokes gave the ball to part-time bowler Harry Brook, who bowled gentle full tosses, allowing Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to complete their centuries.
Nasser Hussain Reacts Strongly
Former England captain Nasser Hussain called Stokes’ decision “silly” and said the move was unnecessary. He defended India’s choice to continue batting and said both Jadeja and Sundar earned the right to finish their innings. Hussain added that the game should be played out unless both sides agree otherwise.
Reactions Across the Cricketing World
Many experts and former cricketers supported India’s decision to play on. They criticised England’s frustration and described the use of Brook as disrespectful. Some even labelled Stokes’ move as unsporting, arguing it undermined the integrity of Test cricket.
India Shows Strong Character
India’s comeback was remarkable. From being 0 for 2, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul built a strong foundation. Jadeja and Sundar’s unbeaten partnership further frustrated England, and their centuries highlighted India’s grit. The draw helped India keep the series alive at 2–1.
Final Test Set for The Oval
With the series still open, both teams now prepare for the fifth and final Test at The Oval. India will be without injured wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, but their fighting spirit in Manchester has given them renewed confidence for the decider.
