Hemant Soren’s Party, Congress to Contest 70 Seats in Jharkhand Polls
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced on Saturday that the INDIA bloc partners have reached a consensus on seat-sharing for the upcoming Jharkhand state assembly election.
The alliance, which includes the Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Left parties, will field candidates together in the polls.
INDIA Bloc Seat-Sharing Finalized
Soren confirmed that the Congress and JMM will jointly contest 70 out of the 81 seats in the assembly. “We have considered all aspects and perspectives, and we are moving forward as an alliance,” Soren stated, highlighting the cooperation within the INDIA bloc. He added that decisions regarding the remaining 11 seats will be finalized after further discussions with other alliance partners.
Jharkhand Minister and Congress leader Banna Gupta also expressed confidence in the alliance, stating that the seat-sharing discussions were conducted smoothly and systematically. He emphasized that the people of Jharkhand would once again place their trust in the INDIA bloc, led by Hemant Soren.
Two-Phase Polls in November
The Jharkhand assembly polls will be held in two phases, on November 13 and 20, with counting scheduled for November 23. The election is expected to be closely contested, with the INDIA bloc set to face off against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The NDA has also finalized its seat-sharing arrangement, with the BJP contesting 68 seats, the AJSU Party 10, JD(U) 2, and the LJP (Ram Vilas) 1.
This election will be crucial for both alliances, as they vie for control of the 81-seat assembly in Jharkhand.
