
Heavy Rain: 41 Trees Down, South-West Bengaluru Worst Hit
Heavy rain in Bengaluru on Thursday caused widespread disruption, especially in the southern and western zones of the city. According to city authorities, 41 trees fell, and many more branches collapsed between 6 am and 6 pm. More than 100 complaints were logged during this period.
Areas Most Affected
- Bengaluru South, including Jayanagar, JP Nagar, BTM Layout, and Basavanagudi, saw the most damage with 15 tree falls, road blockages, and waterlogged streets.
- Bengaluru West, covering Rajajinagar, Vijayanagar, and Chandra Layout, also recorded 15 tree falls and 10 branch collapses, creating serious traffic issues.
- In the North, areas such as RT Nagar, Hebbal, and Yelahanka dealt with nine trees down and 12 branch collapses. Waterlogging was noted near clogged drains.
Lesser Impact Elsewhere
Central and East Bengaluru experienced fewer incidents. Central zones reported two tree falls and six branch collapses, while East Bengaluru had just four complaints including waterlogging and a branch collapse.
Authorities Respond
Civic teams have been mobilised to clear fallen trees and unblock roads. Residents expressed frustration, saying that monsoon-related disruptions are becoming routine.
