Hasina Says ‘Illegal Usurpers’ Pushed Bangladesh Into Darkness

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accused what she described as “illegal usurpers” of pushing the country towards instability and darkness. In a sharp statement, Hasina targeted Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who is associated with the current interim political setup, blaming the leadership for misgovernance and weakening state institutions. She said Bangladesh has suffered due to actions taken by those who, according to her, assumed power without a popular mandate.

Claims of economic and social damage

Hasina alleged that the country’s economy has been badly affected under the interim arrangement, with rising uncertainty hurting investor confidence and employment prospects. She claimed that law and order conditions have deteriorated and that ordinary citizens are facing insecurity and economic hardship. According to Hasina, Bangladesh’s international standing has also suffered as a result of what she termed irresponsible governance.

Political divisions deepen

The former Prime Minister said the interim leadership has failed to respect Bangladesh’s constitutional framework and the values established since independence. She accused her political opponents of distorting history and undermining the legacy of the Liberation War. Hasina warned that continued instability could have long term consequences for democracy and national unity.

Call to restore democratic order

Despite her criticism, Hasina urged citizens to remain united and resist what she described as attempts to derail Bangladesh’s progress. She reiterated her call for the restoration of democratic governance through elections, saying the country’s future depends on political legitimacy and stability.
