Hamas rejects formal signing of Trump Gaza deal

Hamas has announced it will not participate in the official signing of the Gaza peace agreement in Egypt, calling Donald Trump’s proposal “absurd.” Senior leaders stated that while indirect ceasefire talks took place through mediators, the group will not endorse the agreement in a formal ceremony.

Disarmament and Expulsion Proposals Rejected

The strongest objections center on clauses requiring Hamas to disarm and on suggestions that its members could be forced to leave Gaza. Leaders called these conditions “nonsense” and “out of the question,” emphasizing that Hamas will not give up weapons it views as essential to resistance.

Doubts Over Trump’s 20-Point Plan

Trump’s plan outlines phased steps including ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, border controls, and eventual disarmament. Hamas’s refusal to sign and its outright rejection of disarmament cast serious doubt on whether the plan can move forward in full.

Diplomatic Fallout

The refusal has frustrated mediators like Egypt and Qatar, who were working to formalize the deal. Without Hamas’s participation, the agreement’s legitimacy and enforceability remain uncertain. Analysts now warn that the absence of Hamas at the signing table could stall momentum and complicate future reconstruction and governance efforts in Gaza.
